Baby Cora's birth story

Our sweet Cora Isabella McKay made her arrival on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2015 at 4:32 pm.  She weighed 7 pounds and 6 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long.

On Monday, June 22nd I had my 38 week OB appointment to check my progress.  I was dilated 4 cm and completed effaced, but not contracting at the time so I was dismissed and told to come back next week if Cora didn't come on her own sooner.  I had been in severe pain with contractions off and on for several weeks and began dilating when I was 34 weeks, needless to say I had been very anxious about exactly when she would make her appearance for quite sometime.  That night around midnight I began having contractions that lasted a couple of hours.  Finally around 2:00 a.m. I woke Chris and told him.  Not wanting to wake Tiny, we told the charge nurse, Vicki, and walked next door to UAB Women's and Infants Center where I was monitored for an hour then admitted, much to my surprise.  We settled in to the delivery room around 4:00 a.m. and began calling grandparents around 5:00 a.m.  By then my contractions were much stronger, but not helping progress things very quickly.  I received Pitocin around 12:00 noon and my water was broke shortly after.  I was in active labor for over 2 hours but Cora was just not making things easy for me as she was facing upwards and therefore very difficult to get thru the birth canal.  Her heart rate would drop drastically with every contraction and for awhile Dr. Wright was concerned that the umbilical cord was wrapped around her head limiting her oxygen.  Even after using the vacuum, Cora was not budging and by now her heart rate was dropping even more and not recovering as quickly as before.  That's when Dr. Wright made the decision for an emergency c-section.  They rushed me to the operating rooming and started giving me anesthesia immediately.  The next thing I know I'm looking at my baby girl!  She was born at 4:32 pm.  Thank you Lord for my sweet Cora!  We prayed 2 1/2 years for this sweet angel.
